Leamington Spa and Stoneleigh Abbey

Tuesday 6th June 2023

This full day visit includes two sites with which Jane Austen was well aquainted.

Leamington Spa is an attractive Regency Spa town, and nearby Stoneleigh Abbey was the stately home in which she stayed, the property of her mother’s cousins.

On arrival at Leamington Spa Royal Pump Rooms, there will be time for refreshments before an introduction to the building from the Collections Manager followed by the opportunity to tour the Museum and Art Gallery exhibits. Lunch is available at the Pump Rooms cafe, or you may take a picnic to enjoy in the adjoining Jephson gardens.

We leave Leamington Spa in time to arrive at Stoneleigh Abbey for a 2pm guided tour of the ground floor. Jane Austen used to visit the Abbey and together with the grounds it was a source of inspiration for her novels. Our visit includes readings from Jane Austen’s original letters, and writings, and concludes with tea and cake in the Pillared Hall.

NB: not included - morning coffee or lunch.

Members only booking until 11th May. Booking closes 28th May.

There are steps, paving, cobbled and gravelled paths so sensible footwear is recommended.

It is advisable that you complete and bring an “In Case of Emergency” (ICE) form on the day.  The ICE form can be downloaded by clicking on the button below. The form is a note of your essential medical details in the unfortunate event of an accident or illness during the visit, when it would be passed to paramedics.  It is not read by any of our Society.
