National Museum Cardiff

Wednesday 12th October 2022

Two unmarried Welsh sisters possessed of a huge fortune from coal mining, railways and docks with an interest in art visited Paris regularly and collected works by Renoir, van Gogh, Cezanne, Monet, Manet, Pissarro. Although best known for the Impressionist works there are other artists included - Turner, Rodin, Millet, El Greco, Spencer, Gill and Daumier.

The Davies sisters then bequeathed their collection of 260 items to the Museum in 1951 & 1963. This has been described as “possibly the most ravishing display in Britain”. Our curator-led tour will focus on the French Impressionist and Post-impressionist gallery.

Included in the visit are coach travel, driver tip and curator led tour, but no refreshments.
