Christmas at Tyntesfield

Tuesday 6th December 2022

An ornate Victorian Gothic Revival house, Tyntesfield’s story is the remarkable survival of a near-complete Victorian country house and estate. Held by the Gibbs family through four generations from 1844 to 2002, Tyntesfield became a haven where the close-knit Christian family could escape their business affairs and spend time together.

Built on overseas trade, the Gibbs family amassed enormous wealth. Their fortune was applied to funding churches, charitable work and extending and improving the family home. Redesigned from a late Georgian house, it was transformed to High Victorian Gothic style to evoke the English Church of the middle ages. Richly decorated and furnished by leading craftsmen, the house is a remarkable Gothic masterpiece. The house will be decorated for Christmas and get us in a festive mood!
