GARDEN PARTY TO MEET THE NEW PRESIDENT OF THE ARTS SOCIETY CORINIUM
LAURIE PLANT
Sunday 6TH July
The Garden Party, to meet the new President of The Arts Society Corinium, was graciously hosted by our Chair in the garden of Pembroke House, Cirencester.
In addition to the opportunity to meet Laurie Plant, wander through the beautiful garden and socialise whilst partaking of the splendid selection of teas, savouries and cakes, there were various areas of interest to take in and raffle prizes to be won.
Throughout the garden, in the conservatory and the summer house, there was an exhibition of Laurie's paintings that are available for purchase. This gave people not familiar with his work an opportunity to see it, whilst his speech gave greater insight into his interests and work in the community. Laurie is also kindly donating 10% of any sales from the day to our funds.
The atmosphere of the whole afternoon was enhanced by Douglas Butler playing very enjoyable, live music on his electric piano. A special vote of thanks must go to him for generously giving up his time to do so.
TASC collaborated with Ashton Keynes CoE Primary School in mounting a display of the pupils’ artwork under the marque just behind Douglas. The artists range in age from 6 to 10 years and those who saw it were very impressed with the skills and creativity demonstrated. Another opportunity to see the display will be available at the July lecture meeting.
Those feeling inspired by the Pembroke House garden were able to visit the Plant Stall to buy plants. These were kindly supplied supplied by the Exedra Nursery from the Rococo Gardens, Painswick, who donated 10% of the sales to The Arts Society Corinium.
Of course non of this could have happened without a great deal of hard work from members of the Committee, and the group of volunteers without which The Arts Society Corinium would not be able function so well, thank you.
