The Arts Society Corinium has approved a charitable grant to Gloucestershire Piano Trust in 2025.
The charitable grant will enable Gloucestershire Piano Trust to deliver three days of live piano concerts, given by the pianist Clare Hammond, at primary schools in the Cirencester area and at Paternoster School. The aim is for the concerts to take place this Autumn.
The concerts will be organised in collaboration with Gloucestershire Music. They will aim to include schools that have a significant proportion of children on Pupil Premium and which currently have very limited music provision. It is hoped that these live piano concerts will inspire and broaden the horizons of the children who experience the concerts as well as enhancing their appreciation of live music.
Similar concerts have been hugely successful in the past and have reached pupils that may never have experienced live music before.
Once dates have been confirmed a representative of The Arts Society Corinium will attend at least one of the concerts.
A Moment of Magic with the Gloucestershire Piano Trust
The typical hustle of Powell’s School was replaced by an enchanted quiet on 23 September 2025, as acclaimed British pianist Clare Hammond began her performance. For one entrancing hour, the accomplished musician, who recently graced the Albert Hall stage, held a hall full of primary school children spellbound with the magic of live classical piano.
This concert was just one of twelve local primary schools visited this year, an initiative funded by The Arts Society Corinium, that has introduced over 1,200 children to live classical music. Clare Hammond's program was as diverse as it was educational. She performed six pieces, each from a different era and composer, and personally introduced each one with fascinating details about its creation.
The children proved to be a wonderfully perceptive audience. At one point, Hammond invited them to share their emotions after a piece, and their thoughtful, sensitive replies were a highlight of the day. The experience was a clear success, proving that the power of classical music can captivate and move young hearts and minds.
