Our visit to both The Frampton court Estate and Dr Jenner’s house was very successful as the quotations below from two members show:
“A wonderful day visiting Frampton Court Estate with a guided tour by the owner Rollo and Janie Clifford, sharing their history and home treasures, followed by a delicious lunch with home produce from their garden.”
“One of the best visits that I have been on as a member of The Arts Society Corinium. How special to be shown around Frampton Manor House, the Wool Barn and gardens by the current owners. It was fascinating to hear the Clifford family history….
Dr Jenner’s house in Berkeley was interesting and informative. To visit where where the first vaccination clinic was held in the garden was especially meaningful to myself as a public health nurse, the starting point of the world wide eradication of smallpox.”
Frampton Court Estate – this has been the home of the Clifford family for over 1000 years and lies on the banks of the river Severn, on the edge of the Cotswolds. There is a stunning Georgian mansion and splendid gardens. This property is widely used for weddings and as a film location. We will be given a guided tour around the Manor House, Wool Barn and the gardens. The Wool Barn built in the 1560’s is one of the largest and most significant in the country.
Dr Jenner’s House in Berkeley – this is the former home of Dr Edward Jenner (1749-1832) who discovered the smallpox vaccination. The house is now a museum celebrating Dr Jenner and the history and development of vaccination. There is a Physic garden containing a collection of medicinal herbs.
